Hello there, thank you so much for taking the time to read my tumblr. If you like what you see, please follow; if you decide to follow me, please talk to me. I don’t bite and I would love to hear your opinions and feedback-both positive and negative- as long as it is respectful and intelligent.
I guess I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I’m 17 and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m a female, and according to a lot of people, myself included, I am a liberal. I feel a bit weird saying that. I think it’s because conservatives have created a sort of stigma for the word. I think they’ve tried to make liberals out to be God-hating; bible-bashing; abortion-loving; pot-smoking; socialist, fascist, commies. I’m not just some teenage girl who decided one day she wanted to be a democrat because that was the cool and hip thing to do. Believe me, being liberal is not the cool thing to be in a lot of the situations I find myself in.
I once had a very conservative teacher ask me what my parents told me about politics and what they taught me about it. I was both offended and astonished. I somewhat bitterly responded that my parents didn’t teach me to think one way or another regarding politics. I think they played a huge roll in helping me shape my beliefs, but they didn’t do that by telling me what to believe. May parents simply raised me to believe:
- Everyone is created/born equal.
- You should treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.
- You shouldn’t every judge anyone based on their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.
- Doing the right thing and treating people nicely is simply the right thing to do, so you should do it.
Basically, my parents taught me to be a good person and treat each other fairly and equally. If that makes me a liberal, then so be it.
